Actually Sticking to Studying the CompTIA A+ Core 1
This is an exam I’ve been studying off and on for many years. Iv’e watched many incarnations come and go. I started seriously studying for it in late 2023, but then stopped when external pressures pushed me away (I was close to ready at that time for Core 1). I then landed an IT job and prioritized learning the role before re-studying the exam. Now is the time to get this exam out of the way. Already, as I read through a prep book, the subject feels “easy” and relatable. Study this time feels like “review” more so than “learning”. I’m close to ready but I haven't been studying as much as I’ve needed. I finished reading the book so the next step would be practice questions, which I did but I have yet to go through my answers.
Something I put more time into than I have previously did is the topic of virtual machines. That is something I am personally interested in but it would be hard to work on it. Actually there is a VM iPad app I should really try it if it is a bit underwhelming from what I understand. At work I work with lots of printers. In my first study through I did not care about printers. I still don’t, but after hitting brick walls with them and speaking to vendors who spend only 5 minutes to fix a printer, I’ve realized this is something I have to learn. I have a strong understanding on how each one functions, I just get lost on some of the troubleshooting. Speaking of troubleshooting, that is a topic I always gloss over when it comes to study. When I do a brief read through it feels like common sense. Even remembering CompTia’s steps was easy, I simplified it to identify, theorize, test, implement, verify, document. I feel like its not the best steps to follow, but if you are new to troubleshooting it might be a helpful structured list to follow through. That’s where I’m at so far. Next thing I need to do is schedule the exam. I will be doing it in person because I don’t trust doing it remotely. Hopefully having a date will ensure I study. Instead of taking time to talk about it here. Welp that’s it for now going back to my flash cards.
